This Privacy Policy explains how Stashmap ("Stashmap," "we," "us," or "our"), operated by Cameron Fuller, collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Stashmap mobile application and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

Who we are
Stashmap is a travel app that lets you save places you discover, organize them on a personal map into collections and trips, and share them with others. This policy covers the information we handle to make that work.
Information we collect
Information you provide directly
Account information: your email address and a password when you create an account, and profile details such as display name, username, avatar image, and bio.
Content you create: places you save, collections and trips you build, reviews you write, and any photos, notes, or captions you add.
Links and captions you import: when you paste a link from a social platform (for example TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, or Reddit) or use the import feature, we process that link and any associated caption text to identify the place it refers to.
Messages: the content of direct messages you send to other users through the Service.
Communications: information you send us when you contact support.
Information collected automatically
Location information: with your permission, we use your device location to center the map near you, to power nearby and check-in features, and to associate saved places with locations. You can grant precise or approximate location, or deny location access, in your device settings.
Usage and device information: basic information about how you use the app and the device you use it on, such as app version, device type, and general diagnostic and log data, so we can operate and improve the Service.
Permissions we request
Location, to show the map near you and enable place-based features.
Photo library or camera, if you choose to add a photo to a place, review, or profile.
You can change or revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings. Some features may not work without them.
How we use information
create and maintain your account and authenticate you,
provide core features such as saving places, building maps and trips, importing places from links, reviews, messaging, and social connections,
identify and enrich the places you save using third-party place data,
personalize your experience, such as defaulting the map to your location,
operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Service, including monitoring for abuse and managing service costs,
communicate with you about your account or the Service,
comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below.
With service providers and infrastructure partners
Google Maps Platform (Places), to look up and enrich place details, photos, and search results. When you search for or save a place, relevant query and location information is sent to Google to return results. Google's handling of that data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
Anthropic, to interpret the social links and captions you import and extract the place being referenced. The link and caption text you submit for import are sent to Anthropic's API for this purpose. Anthropic's handling of that data is governed by Anthropic's terms and policies.
Hosting and backend infrastructure providers (including Cloudflare) that store data and run the Service.
These providers process information only to provide their services to us.
With other users
Your public profile, the places and collections you choose to make public, your public reviews, and your social interactions (such as following) are visible to other users according to your settings. Reviews you mark private are not shown publicly. Direct messages are visible to the people in the conversation.
For legal and safety reasons
We may disclose information if required by law, to respond to legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Stashmap, our users, or the public.
In a business transfer
If Stashmap is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will note any such change here.
Location data
Location is central to Stashmap, so we want to be clear: we use your device location to center your map, surface nearby places, support check-ins, and tie your saved places to the map. We use location while you are using the relevant features. You control location access through your device permissions and can turn it off at any time.
Your content and its visibility
You decide what to make public. Places, collections, and reviews can be public or private depending on your choices in the app. Making content public means other users can see it. You can edit or delete your content, and you can change a review's privacy setting.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete content, we remove it from the active Service. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except where we need to retain limited information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Backup copies may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing.
Access and correction: you can view and update much of your profile and content directly in the app.
Deletion: you can delete individual content in the app. You can delete your entire account and associated personal data from within the app at Settings > Account > Delete Account. You can also email us at support@stashmap.app to request deletion.
Permissions: you can revoke location and photo permissions in your device settings.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. To make a request, contact support@stashmap.app.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted transport and access controls on our infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
Stashmap is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us at support@stashmap.app and we will delete it. If you are between 13 and the age of majority where you live, you may use Stashmap only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
